History
Eton's name comes from the Old English eaton literally meaning 'river-town'. It sits on the River Thames in Berkshire in close proximity to Windsor, Slough and Maidenhead.
Eton is just a minute's walk across the footbridge from Windsor. Home to the Eponymous College, it is a pretty town with an eclectic row of boutique shops along its High Street

Dorney Rowing Lake just up the road from Eton will be hosting the rowing and canoeing events for the London 2012 Summer Olympics. It will be the largest venue outside London and is expected to attract 250,000 visitors - rowers, officials, press and spectators. This should be a boost to the local Economy as visitors take in the College and the local shopping.
